"Hither I Am" reached number one in the Czech Democracy and Portugal, number five in the Britain and on the Usa Billboard Adult Contemporary nautical chart, and the superlative 20 in at least 10 other European countries. The vocal won an ASCAP Laurels and was nominated for Golden Earth Award for All-time Original Vocal. Adams also recorded a French version called "Me voilà".
Music video [edit]
The music video, directed by Mike Lipscombe and produced past Michael J. Pierce, is gear up in the American Southwest, featuring Adams and several women living in the wilderness trying to survive from thirst, snakes, etc. They are all portrayed as giants roaming on the mural. As a reference to the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, a herd of horses is shown running through a desert.
Bryan Adams' performance and the role player performances were filmed in a greenish screen studio in Hollywood, California. The groundwork for the video was filmed in Monument Valley, Utah, from a helicopter. The sequences with the horses were filmed at ranch in Santa Clarita, California, against a large dark-green screen so that the activity of the horses could be manipulated in mail-product. The total product period was 6 days, an extremely ambitious turnaround for a project that was all light-green screen and visual effects. This was necessary to premier the music video at the Hollywood screening of the pic Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
