He wrote a life of Sydney Smith, old Rector of Combe Florey, later Waugh's home hamlet, and he edited the selected letters of Waugh's smashing-great-grandfather the judge Lord Cockburn. He was an adviser to Oxford University Printing'south "Complete Edition" of Evelyn Waugh and, with Alexander Waugh, co-editor of its volume 30, Personal Writings 1903-1921: precocious Waughs (2017).
