DISCLAIMER: I received a digital review copy of I Know You're Lying via Edelweiss Above the Treeline in exchange for an honest review

4.5 stars

Wait, wait, wait this was actually so good??

I read I Know Your Secret last year and I…thought it was fine?? I didn't think it was necessarily bad in any way, I just wanted it to be much better than it was. A solid three stars, honestly—although, I think the target audience would LOVE it.

I read I Know Your Secret last year and I…thought it was fine?? I didn't think it was necessarily bad in any way, I just wanted it to be much better than it was. A solid three stars, honestly—although, I think the target audience would LOVE it.

I was, however, intrigued when I saw the arc for this one. So, I requested it and oh my good god I loved this one so much more than I thought I would.

There was a significant improvement in everything from the plot to the writing to the characters between the first one and this one—again, not that I Know Your Secret was bad, it's just that I Know You're Lying was much better.

Oh, and I always love when media—especially stuff targeted at young readers—talks about mental illness and therapy.

Honestly, I think this is going on my honorable mentions for my favorites of 2022 :)

Perfect for fans of Karen M. McManus's One of Us is Lying.

Looking for a fun middle-grade whodunit? I Know You're Lying will be available on September 6, 2022, so get ready to spend some time reading.

When four students are accused of stealing Sasha's backpack, the mystery takes off. But is Sasha completely innocent? Hmmm, she may be someone to watch out for.

Don't we all wish we had the special gift that the investigative reporter in the group has? Her photographic memory is bound to help.

Full of twists and suspense, it's a story to easily get caught up

My Concerns
Would a school principal run an investigation this way? Probably not. But it's fun fiction. Enjoy!

Final Thoughts
It's a go. This is a book you'll want to investigate and no doubt purchase.

My thanks to RockstarBookTour and the publisher for an ebook and the ability to freely post my thoughts.

Another twisty, suspenseful school based mystery like this author's I Know Your Secret.

A lot of talk about investigative journalism, a particularly evil girl from who a backpack is stolen, and students who are accused of the crime who must then find the real thief. Hard to believe that a principal would run an investigation this way, but students will enjoy the sense of empowerment.

Read to get a sense of whether it would fit in our junior high collection (and nope solidly j fic). Fast-paced! Utterly improbable! A great choice for a younger kid who isn't ready for the death-and-murder-and-kissing world of One of Us Is Lying.
